How many of us shop based on the name of a product? Likely because it is familiar, sounds good, or was referred by another. Unfortunately that may not be the best way to shop for a medicinal product. Allow me to explain...
1. The first concern may be that there are no laws regulating product names or protecting Landrace/Heirloom Strain names. Whether based on Geno, Pheno, Chemotype or Typicity. An example would be Champagne. One may not call a product Champagne unless it is from Champagne France. It is otherwise known as Sparkling Wine. There are, however, regulations in place for product content, packaging, & processes.
2. Second, a product such as Grand Daddy Purple (GDP) in one location is not likely the same GDP at another. Just like Spaghetti & Meatballs at one restaurant is not the same at another. Also, products based on Strains are likely to vary from batch to batch. Though variations may be slight, a drop or increase in Terpene percentage by 1%-2% can have a significant & clinical impact. What may work for you this week, may not work as well next week. This may also be due to tolerance. Not to THC, but to the Strain itself.
3. Shopping by Strain name may also play into the Placebo Effect. This is to say that the name suggest the effect, therefore leading the consumer to feel that effect. Placebo plays a significant role into how one may feel after consuming a product. Particularly during consultations. Once one becomes more familiar or as ones body adjust to consuming the product, the effects may change or become less effective.
So how should one shop for medicinal products? By Cannabinoid & Terpene content. This information can sometimes be found on the dispensaries websites. If not, one may request a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) be provided to show this information prior to purchasing. Or use N.O.D.E. Need, Onset, Duration, Effect. Realizing the difference between what you "Need" and the desired "Effects" required to get there will play a significant role in your consultation. Confident Cannabis Connect: https://connect.confidentcannabis.com/
Connect helps you explore the different flower products in the legal cannabis marketplace. The colored spheres are called Dots. Each Dot represents a kind of flower on the market. Composite Dots represent all of the flower sold under a strain name, anywhere. Private Dots represent a single producer's flower sold under a strain name. The collection of all the Dots together is called the Cluster. The position of Dots in the Cluster shows how similar products are to each other, in terms of their expected chemistry. This means that consuming a bundle of flower from one Dot is likely to produce similar experience as consuming a bundle of flower from a nearby Dot. With Connect you can:
Use the search box to find the chemical profiles of your favorite strains.
Compare flower you know and love with ones you've never heard of to learn about new strains
Use Regions to find Dots with the cannabinoids and terpenes you're looking for
